NEH Summer Workshops

I've applied to two and already gotten accepted to one of the NEH week-long summer workshops geared to CC faculty. I'll have fun--heck, I'm driving, so it'll be good quiet time and alone time in the car, if nothing else.
Has anyone gone to these? Are they useful? Fun? Any crazy competitiveness (which I wouldn't really expect) to ruin the week?
And the paperwork says dress is "everyday casual"--can somebody give me an up-to-date translation of this, for women, please?
Thanks a lot!
