i filled up yesterday and the person ahead of me paid $75 for less than 20 gallons of Diesel.

Here the cheapest gas is $3.19.

Is there a price that would be "too high"?

how have you cut back?

$3.45 a gallon.

I live close to campus, and before I started cancer treatment, I walked to work every day. Now I'm too fatigued and can't walk up the hill. I'm OK coming down, but uphill takes too much out of me.

I filled up, and paid $3.47 a gallon for the lower octane (87).
I have not decided how I will cur back.

I think that the prioce of food, housing, etc.  is increasing as the price of fuel increases.

$3.61 a gallon for the cheapest grade this morning.  This evening, same gas station was up to $3.71.

Heating oil for the house is about $3.80 a gallon, and it's not warming up fast enough for us to turn off the heat yet.

$3.26 for the 87 octane.  This is the highest it's been in my 'hood, I think.

Last summer (or summer before last) when it got nearly this high, I seriously considered getting a moped or something for my 3 mile commute.  I could bike it, but the roads are twisty and narrow and I don't currently have panniers I could stick my laptop in.  The drivers around here aren't used to cyclists either so it could make it rougher.  But I'm still considering it!

$3.10 9/10 at the closest location to my home, $3.21 9/10 at most other locations in town.  Fortunately, I had intentionally chosen a home where I could walk to work (but am cutting back on other driving).

$3.24 a gallon as of this evening.  The gas station guy told me to expect a 10-15 cent jump later in the week.  Thank goodness I live 5 minutes from campus.

$3.29 today.

We've cut down our driving significantly. Fortunately my wife and I work on the same campus, and close enough to walk when we aren't going in together.  That makes it easy enough to share one car between us.   We sold our second car and I got a moped.

While I don't enjoy spending a lot of money on gas, I'm not complaining about it either.  Gas has been artificially cheap in the US for way too long.  I hope it keeps going up.

$3.01.  I win.  But I walk almost everywhere, and only drive once or twice a week when I go to the grocery store or go park at the train station.

What's your gas mileage on the moped?  And what do you do when it rains? And how do you transport your laptop?  Just curious....

$3.29 - $3.39.

I take the bus to campus and only drive for shopping. I haven't filled the tank on my small SUV since Christmas break. I'm hoping I can hold out until the end of term.

I think the mileage is about 60-70 mpg.  In the brand new ones you're supposed to get 90 mpg.  The new ones are actually more environmentally friendly, since they are 4-stroke engines.  I go about 1.5 miles each way to campus, so when the weather is nice and I'm using it 5 or 6 days a week, I spend about $3 or 4 a month on gas.   When it rains, I walk.  I carry my laptop in a backpack/bookbag.  I've also got a locking bin on the back, about the size of a breadbox (in case I need to carry some bread).

The only thing about it is that you feel like people are looking at you and laughing when you're riding it.  And they mostly are.

I think my last tank was $3.65 a gallon (93 octane).  Fortunately, I don't drive much (my six-year-old car has about 18,000 miles on it), so a tank can last as long as a month.

I would love to get a moped, but they aren't very practical around here, between the weather and the hills--and the likelihood that someone in a four-wheeled vehicle won't see you and will run you down.  If I ever manage to move to Key West, though, I will gladly give up the car for a moped; mopeds are fairly standard down there.
