Any tips on good bars, restaurants, or sights within walking distance of William and Mary?

You must take a walk through Colonial Williamsburg which is only about a block away from the campus.

I took a tour of William and Mary led by an excellent student guide (I was not there as a visitor to the College so this was a tour available to the public). I also enjoyed strolling around Colonial Williamsburg.

Oh me me me I know I know!

Eat at The Blue Talon--a French bistro, delightful. Drink overpriced rum drinks at one of the colonial taverns after the dinner crowds have gone. Once all the children have left the strolling minstrels will sing you some of the more earthy songs. You don't need a visitor pass to go into the taverns, but you should buy one anyway and see some of the sights of Colonial Williamsburg. I like the artisan shops especially where you see colonial cabinet makers, pewtersmiths, etc. at work. Another place to drink is the Green Leafe. Say hi to the grad students there and tell them to go home and write their dissertations.

The Colonial Parkway to Jamestown and Yorktown is worth the drive. Jamestown is especially a cool place to visit.

Paul's Deli is right next to the Green Leafe and is a nice place for greasy food (if that's your thing).  There's also a nice coffee shop in the Colonial Williamsburg shops called "Aromas" that is quite popular.  Barrett's seafood is popular, but was always a bit pricey for me.  The Cheese Shop has good sandwiches.

Oops, I thought you meant Brooklyn. They probably don't have a Barcade in the other one.

There's a place a couple miles from campus called the Jamestown Pie Company.  The apple pie stinks IMHO, but there are several others on the menu that are great!  Just Google it.

The bar situation is crap, so far as I could tell. Was there for a conference and I asked: "well, where do the professors that teach these kids go to have a drink in peace? Was told, 'they go home.'"

Compson, you must be going to SSSL.  Thanks for starting this thread.

If you have a car the Yorktown Pub is another fun place to drink.

Everything Larry said.
If you're up for it, a stay in one of the hotels is excellent.
I've stayed in one of the Colonial Houses and loved it.

There are many outlet malls, if that appeals to you.
