One of my parents died over a year ago - leaving a life insurance policy which the insurance company doesn't want to pay (because my parent died within the 2 year contingency period before the company "has" to pay the benefits). I have high powered attorneys who have been working on litigation to get them to do so.

The latest development is that there is to be a settlement mediation conference. Is this a sign that maybe things are resolving and we won't have to go to trial? Or is it too early to get my hopes up that all of this will be over sooner rather than later?

What do your attorneys say? I'd be cautiously optimistic if I were you. But is this something they have agreed to do independently or simply a procedural requirement of the policy?
