I often have nightmares about not having a place to do my business. Bathrooms are crucial.

I still have the academic anxiety dream that it's the end of the semester and I'm registered for a course I didn't go to.
I wonder if that dream ever goes away.

I didn't start having dissertation defense nightmares until 18 months after my defense.
They are a little irritating, to be honest.

I used to have this dream, then it switched to a version in which I was supposed to
teach
the class.

My father (who went emeritus a couple of years ago) says not. I had the academic anxiety dreams during all the years I was away from academia, and have continued to have them now that I'm back. Apparently it's the sign of an academic mind. Sigh...

I dreamed that a dissertation draft I was to receive from one of my advisees was so wildly awful that I was just going to have to tell this person that they might as well just drop out now.
In the dream, the person had decided to completely abandon the topic they had been working on for almost 7 years and take a "new look." They also included massive amounts of "photocopied" materials "because it might be relevant to my defense." It was massive at over 500 pages with about 50 pages of original work in one chapter buried in the middle.
I woke up ANGRY at having to deal with this situation and it took the better part of a day to get over this feeling even though I knew it was only a dream.

I had pretty lousy insomnia for the better part of the night, and the few hours of sleep I got this morning were taken up by a dream that involved: (1) being 30 min. late for a teaching presentation for a job that I've already gotten, but for an institution that is draaaaaging its feet sending me the freakin contract . . . (2) having one of my younger sisters pull a gun on me, more likely a displacement about what I've fantasized about doing to the parasitic-gambling-addicted-loser she finally broke up with. . . and (3) having a lipstick explode on my face right before leaving for said presentation.
Not big on psychoanalytic theory, but both Freud and Jung seem like they might be pretty handy at the moment.
