Play the roll, and roll the play.  You'll be glad you did.

Some folks don't get enough roll play :)

Kids get in the way....then again,. . . roll play results in kiddies sometimes.

Sigh.

While you have gotten great advice so far, I feel the need to add--say something to someone in charge.  What if officemate is back next semester?  Do you all ever switch offices?  How might others respond?

I say this because I once did the "deal with it amongst ourselves" thing with an officemate who was way too friendly--and offensive in commentary as well.  Over a year later, I discover that everyone was having this reaction in and out of the office.  Things finally resolved themselves when he wasn't rehired, but that wasn't until after he got drunk and grabby with a master's student at a department party.  The poor girl ended up backed into a corner (literally) and others moved him off of her.  It was after that incident that many of us felt we should have said something before to help maintain a reasonable workplace.  (But this depends on how bad your officemate is.  I didn't think mine would do something like that--until he did.)

Good luck, in any event.

The word is official, said office mate will not be returning next semester.  I requested an office change and got the word.  Hu has also been extremely quite since our last conversation, so it is entirely possible that hu got the point last time.

Thanks for weighing in folks.

King Ghidorah: Good to see that you acted kingly about it and had that chat with your office mate.
