Oh no, you're not alone. I sometimes daydream about what job searching would be like if it were conducted as ANTM is...

Can you imagine?

"Two talented candidates stand before me, but I only have one tt contract in my hands.

Candidate 1, your research wowed the judges, but your teaching demo lacked enthusiasm. Candidate 2, the judges believe you would be a wonderful colleague and student mentor. But they question whether or not you have what it takes to pull in external funding.

Only one of you will continue on with hopes of becoming America's next tenure track assistant professor..."

Ha! I don't think there's much of a market for dorky reality shows about academics, unfortunately.

For what it's worth, I have not watched this week's ANTM but I did finish writing my diss results section. I'm quite proud of myself.

No, I guess if their was such a market our dating pool would also be larger.

OMG, I thought I was the only one who would imagine that!!!
Everytime I watch Runway Project or Top Chep (yeah, very intellectual), I think how cool would be a competiotion among grad students...
 That would be real drama.

If I had known that so many other people would "agree" with me, I wouldn't have put "wish" in quotes earlier.
Other thesis time-suckers include: Twitter, Google Reader, any Yahoo! game, Iron Chef (what I'm watching right now), etc.
Oh man, I need to get out more.    ;)

Buffster, Google reader sucks away a great deal of my time too. I don't know what Twitter is, but I will not look it up for fear I will become addicted to it.

I need to get out more too. Spring break = dissertation 1, getting out 0. But I wrote a boatload and came to some more complex conclusions about my findings. Getting out can wait, I suppose.

Good luck to all of you and happy writing!
