Do you know how much the adjuncts are paid at schools like Boston College? or Boston University? I am asking on behalf of my friend/ colleague.

I am afraid it depends on disciplines and workload (and market demand).
Also, Boston College and Boston University are very different, at least geographically.

When I taught at BC, about six years ago, in a humanities subject, without a PhD, it paid about $4000 per 3-credit course. This was about 25-30 per cent higher than I got at other Boston-area schools at the time. I have no idea what they pay now, nor in all fields, but I will say that it is still one of the schools that paid the most.
PS. They have a great library, and they had no compunction about ordering ILL materials for me, even more than a year after I stopped working there. I probably would not have finished my dissertation without their library.

I teach at BC part-time in the School of Ed. They pay $5000/class. I don't think it matters what degree you hold - though they tend to hire PhDs. It may vary between departments...I cannot say for sure. I've taught at other smaller schools in Boston for much less. They pay the most of any school I know, except Harvard. I would bet BU is around the same.

If you are curious about adjunct work
there are quite a lot of schools in the Boston Area.
