I would like some advice regarding negotiations for those renewable asst professorships. I'm in the social sciences.

It's a three year position. I know already to ask for more salary, a good computer with a decent replacement/service plan, and software for teaching/research. I'll already get a course reduction for being a first year.

What else do folks ask for?  The place that I'll be going to is quite adamant about how their contract positions are comparable with their tenure track positions - though there's a greater emphasis on teaching than research. If that's really the case, I figure it can't hurt to ask for the following:

summer salary
start up package
funds for conference/travel
moving costs
funds to hire RAs

but what else?

And what do folks have success with? which arguments work to support these requests?

thanks so much!
