My interpretive dance about Badiou's concept of "the event" is going to bring down the house. I just have to figure out how to put it into abstract form before March 15th.

I'm already so very there.

What would I do without you both, aandsdean and yellowtractor?

I must leave you now to go rehearse. See you in San Francisco!

I wish aandsdean was my dean. It's always possible that Hu is, but I don't think so.

I'm pretty sure my dean doesn't have an interest, even a closet one, in the 18th century.

Does one have to hold a tenure-track position to deliver a paper at the MLA (comp lit field)? Can one be an adjunct or VAP?
Absolutely not. I delivered a paper at Chicago and I am a grad student.
Other than that, I do not quite like the MLA that much. I prefer other conferences, the MLA is too big, too depressing and people (both grad students looking for a job, and professors) try too hard to impress their peers.
 But Chicago rocks, anyway.

Like Mr.Dissertator, I delivered a paper in Chicago and last year at Philly and both experiences - while it would be an exageration to say "terrible" - were awfully trying, not to mention expensive.  I hope they will be worth it on the job market.  I'd rather rock and roll all night and party every day.
