A question for the last poster - what happens to people who have these strange schedules and seem to work constantly? I have a colleague who regularly stays up to 2-3 am working, sometimes calls other faculty and students at odd hours (i.e., 5 am) and appears to be overcommitted and overworked.

I really like this colleague, but I worry about hu.

that clearly crosses a line of sanity and collegiality
