Very good.  Good for religion, ancient history, early modern history... these are my experiences.  Sometimes I'm disappointed with some of their edited books (of compiled essays, that is), but I think this might be because I'm comparing these works to some of the superb reference materials or textual studies that they have, apples and oranges style.

Thanks hvernon.  Dern it, I did a search for Brill in the fora, and must have done something wrong, because all I got was a list about Peter Lang in which Brill was mentioned.

What does folks think of them for history, specifically history of science?

Brill is an excellent press in medieval and renaissance intellectual history.

The books cost a fortune, so I suspect libraries are the target audience for most books. They publish very few paperbacks. In fact, I don't think I have come across a paperback by Brill in many years.

I'm working with Brill on a project right now, and the experience has been great.  They communicate really promptly and use Web-based technologies to send out proof and updates (at least in this specific case).  I do agree, though -- their books are really pricey!
