I'm working on transcribing some focus group sessions recorded on a digital audio recorder. Can anyone point me towards a piece of software that allows you to adjust the speed of the playback? I've got some fast talkers and not the fastest typing fingers....

There is a great piece of software called "Transcribe!" that can play at 1/2 or 1/4 speed (or other speeds) without altering the pitch.

I have also used the f4 program very successfully. It's actually freeware, and it also comes with spooling ability. Available at

The site is in German, but the software comes in English as well. Fill out the little form on the right (Vorname=first name, Nachname=last name) and click on the button. The site then sends you the downloadlink to your e-mail.
