The Dallas Plaza Downtown Convention Center
It is very inexpensive on Expedia and has 1.5 stars.
Will I catch some horrible fungus, get bitten by bedbugs or get mugged walking from my hotel to the CAA hotel on the way to a job interview if I stay there?
I'm scared after reading the Expedia reviews - but the price is right. Sigh.

I was just in the Adam's Mark in Dallas. We had a reasonable conference rate and the attendees raved about everything but the elevators. They had a weird set up for those and you had to know which ones went to your floor.
Downtown Dallas isn't all that bad. We walked to a local bar/restuarant after dark and had no problems. I'm not sure where your place is, but there are other places in Dallas that are more dangerous than downtown.

Thanks - I checked out tripadvisor.com. Here is the first comment listed. Scary!! Why is Dallas Plaza Downtown Convention Center in Dallas TX on any reputable travel site? That place is the projects or a pay by the hour establishment. The balconies are condemned; do not step out on them. There is mold growing on the walls and in the bathtub. Homeless people hanging around the parking lot wearing big heavy winter coats with lots of pockets in September 90 degree weather in Texas....ok... The hot tub was broken; the pool was so full of chlorine you couldn't stand to go in the room for the fumes. No restaurant, no soft drinks or ice, VERY bad neighborhood. My God what a mess. The Manager was rude and gruff. He didn’t care that we checked in and then right back out. All he cared about was that he had already gotten his money from hotels.com. I don’t consider myself as a person who has to stay in an expensive hotel/motel, but I have paid less than $76.93 a night and the place was at least clean and semi safe. If you are one of those people like me that say well I just can’t believe the reviews, you’ll soon find out when you take that loop up to that place what a mistake you’ve made. From now on I will look at the reviews before I book and lose my money. There’s no telling what kind of bed bugs were in that bed which I did not get near. READ THE REVIEWS! Please please do not stay at this hotel or any that has mostly bad reviews. I learned people don’t just take the time to warn you for their health so I did my part and told you my story. I WISH I would have taken pictures with my cell phone to show you. Book at your own risk. I have checked the box that I am willing to be contacted by other travelers.

Anywho, do you have a car?
My colleague and I will have one--we're arriving Tuesday night and leaving Sunday morning. Send me an email and we'll take you there and back.
We're at the Hampton Inn on 4505 Beltway drive--it's way out. $79/night, though.

anywho - I tried saving money by using Priceline and Hotwire. Someone else here on the fora apparently got the Adam's Mark off Priceline for $45/night for CAA! Lucky bastards! I wasn't able to get Priceline to accept any bids under $85 (I figured any more than that, I might as well know what hotel I'm getting).
So I did Hotwire. I thought, 2*, $52, why not? The 2* Downtown hotel is, unfortunately way out. I'm going to have to see how good Dallas public transit is! Or, just freaking rent a car. Just thought I'd warn you. I was hoping to be within walking distance of the Adam's Mark, but my cheapskatiness won out in the end. I probably should have ponied up the extra cash. Sigh.

anywho, there's a Ramada Inn not too far from the Adam's Mark (1-2 miles) that is really reasonable - less than $70 per night. That's where we'll be...
Oh, and I was totally freaked out by those Dallas Plaza Expedia reviews, too.

Thanks for the tips smithfield muse and jwormold - I did end up cancelling the reservation at that creepy hotel. I found a Ramada about 2 miles away for 75. per night. Good luck to both of you at the conference.

Listen, people, I was the one who got the headquarters hotel for $45. Some of my friends did, too, but that disappeared fast. Only we true Priceline addicts know how to score . . . .
You might consider bidding 4* in Priceline's Knox/Northpark zone. The only reported win is the Hotel Palomar, across the street from a DART rail station. You could easily take the train to the conference everyday, and there's a huge modern shopping center with multiple restaurants there as well. I think accepted bids have been in the $85-100 range, and it's way nicer than the Adams Mark.
Or, you could bid about $30 for 2* in the Market Center zone and rent a car. The most common 2* in that zone is the Extended Stay Deluxe. I've stayed there many times; it's nice. Then you could just drive downtown and pay for parking every day. But you'd still save money.
I wouldn't recommend bidding lower than 2.5* in DT Dallas.
