I'm all for a forum devoted to this.  My spouse and I have had a 2-body problem for almost a decade.  Now I am tenured and he adjuncts, although he has kept publishing.  At this point, despite his credentials, he seems to be persona non grata on the market.  So it may be a lifetime 2-body.  It's so demoralizing for him, and every time I have another career success we both feel ambivalent about it.  A job came up at my U in his field and they didn't even interview him, though (or because?) he has published more than any of the SC members.

Sigh.  No solutions in sight . . .

I have a campus interview this week at a school that actually advertises itself as being responsive to the needs of dual-career couples! (It's right next to the non-discrimination language on the website.) In this case, I think it's because the location is pretty remote and the housing is exceptionally expensive; it may be their best way to attract and keep the people they want. Given this, I would think that job-seeking couples might want to apply for single openings, since perhaps there is a higher chance the trailing spouse would be accommodated.

Interesting... I wonder if we are interviewing for the same job!  That was the main reason why I applied.  I'm curious to see how things will go.

Hmmm...or at least perhaps different jobs at the same U! You can PM me if you want to compare notes; I don't think I see a downside to it.
