I heard this song this morning on an 80's station and it has now been added to my list:

"Invincible" by Pat Benatar

I heart the new Iron and Wine album - it definitely ranks in my top ten of 2007. alwaysanon - we have extremely similar tastes in music. If I didn't know that I don't happen to have another moniker, I would say that you are me. :)

Ooh yes, Iron and Wine are fabulous, eh? Have you heard Vetiver? They've got a similar aesthetic. You might also like Feist (which I saw on nanoo's list, good call!), Devendra Banhart, Laura Barrett, Grizzly Bear and Bonnie Prince Billy if you haven't heard them. What are some of your other favourite bands? It's cool to find a musical doppelgaenger!

Feist - check. I bought The Reminder off of iTunes on the release date. The Postal Service's remix of "Mushaboom" was one of my favorites prior to that.

Devendra Banhart - check.

I will check out the others you mentioned!

Absolute favorites lately? Raine Maida - he has a great album out called The Hunter's Lullaby. I've also been listening to two band projects run by the same guy (whose name escapes me right now) Radical Face (try "Wrapped in Piano Strings") and Electric President (try "Good Morning Hypocrite" or "Insomnia"). Catherine Feeny is another of my latest obsessions. Also The Age of Rockets is an awesome little band out of the NYC anti-folk movement - they're friends with Jenny Owen Youngs and Regina Spektor - that sort of group - only electronic. Also, Cat Power has a new album coming out which I hope, hope, hope will triumph over The Greatest - which has its moments, don't get me wrong - but it's inconsistent if you ask me.

Oh, there are so many more! The Bird and the Bee, Brandi Carlile, Patty Griffin, Anya Marina, Imogen Heap, Esthero, Doria Roberts, Holly Brook, Kate Nash...I could keep going on and on.

Lately I really like folksy type stuff that has an electronic edge to it.

What about you?

Abdgangsta, you should give Sarah Harmer a listen. I think her first two albums (All of Our Names and You Were Here) might be more your taste than her latest (I'm a Mountain).

I also am into The Bird and the Bee, Jenny O. Y., and Cat Power. Patty Griffin is in a class by herself - have you heard her cover of Breakin' Up Somebody's Home? Oooh.

I'll check out the others you listed, I need to get out of my music rut.

I love those earlier Sarah Harmer albums. "Greeting Card Aisle" is probably one of my all-time favorite songs ever.

I, too, need to get out of a rut of sorts - thanks for your suggestions as well, nanoo.

Oooh, we are twins! Bird and the Bee are one of my favourite listens. Can't say I'm all that enthused by Kate Nash for some reason but I love Esthero, Cat Power, Imogen Heap and her awesomely weird name... Radical Face and Electric President are in my iTunes queue right now.

Have you tried the last.fm personal music station? That's how I've learned about a lot of my favourite bands.

I love folksy type stuff in general, of any sort, but lately my preferences have fallen pretty distinctly into two genres: lush, melancholy male high-school pop (The Fray, Keane, Snow Patrol, etc.) and melancholy and/or chilled out folksy or electronic-folksy stuff, bordering on the Alison Krauss-type country/gospel. Her new album with Robert Plant is incredible.

nanoo, I haven't heard any Sarah Harmer but now I'm going to need to pick some up!

I kept playing the "Decisive Battle" instrumental from Final Fantasy X (videogame for the PS2) back when I was working on my dissertation. It seemed fitting.
