I hope everyone is having a better day than me. Unkind e-mail from male Cancerian colleague and me trying to explain my actions = fail.

Spring is here! and that is heartening. Things are greening up and almost all the snow is melted.

However, I just need to write this someplace, as a reminder to myself and as a coping mechanism:

Firecracker, just STFU. Finish the dissertation, ignore what your colleagues and boss are doing (or not doing), and focus on the path in front of you.

I feel better now.

Beautiful people, how are all of you???

Things are trucking along here. I am knee-deep in new research, behind, but it's okay. I think I was pretty run down with stress a couple of weeks ago, but I seem to be recovering a bit. Last week I bought a Thai Spirit House, which is awesome!

I hope that everyone is prospering as the weather turns.

Hi back, beautiful person!

You know, I'm not sure how to answer that question. ZombiMomma is beginning a cancer battle, which scares the ever living hell out of me, but is likely to be beatable with surgery. My emotions are all over the place. I am also unable to tell someone how much I like them (and I like them a lot, even when they are a Jerk, and more when they are Nice). I am not meeting other someones who intrigue me.

But there are good things. My home is nice. My cat is nice. My job is AMAZING. My friends are FABULOUS. And my grad program-to-be is letting me defer, and says that I will probably get my funding back.

Hello, emotional rollercoaster.

TZ, I don't know any details about dear ZombiMomma, of course, but I do want to tell you this:

Système D Maman was found to be in the early stages of ovarian cancer a few years ago.  She had a hysterectomy, and is now completely restored to fabulousness.  She recently returned from Haiti, where, as usual, alas, she saw no zombies.

All this to say: I send ZombiMomma my very best wishes for an easy and successful treatment as well as a swift recovery!

Ugh. My Spring has been a crazy roller coaster of ups and downs.

I won a grant/award that is fantastic for my career.
I bought a house (I think) after a totally stressful negotiation process (I won't relax until we close)
I had a ton of medical issues, but they seem to be getting better
My chair has disappointed me - she's a friend and my boss, and I feel let down by some recent decisions she made that seem more CYA than what is best for our department.
I'm going on an awesome trip with my husband for research and fun this summer, but we had to shorten it due to the house nonsense.
All of this has affected my focus, and I feel like my teaching has been mediocre. I am having trouble devoting the same kind of time/energy to teaching as I have in past semesters.
My hubby is kinda bored with his self-employment, and I don't know how to help him.
I've got a bunch of deadlines coming up that perfectly coincide with the end of the semester.
I am overseeing a couple of wonderful undergraduates and a graduate student who are doing research with me, and I feel like I'm letting them down - not giving them enough guidance or attention.
I really want this house to work out (and I'm optimistic it will), but if it does, that means I have to pack and move and everything!

I am coping by drinking wine, taking my anxiety meds, and trying to work out. It takes the edge off, but that's about it.

GAH.

Hugs to TZ and the undead family and best wishes.

I have spent a long time trying to find 'my' lab, and I think I have found it now. It's not finalized (i.e. I haven't signed and submitted the form that ties me to the lab for the next 5 years) but it's looking pretty good. The first year of grad school is nearly over. I almost can't believe that.

This semester has been a bit of a roller coaster of ups and downs for me as well. I found out exactly what sort of thing can happen when I ignore the fact that I need to take medication, which was not nice, but I managed to do something about that and I feel a lot better for it. The meds really do work, and I have some extremely supportive people in my life at the moment both on and off campus, which is awesome, though unexpected -- this sounds pathetic, but I'm really not used to being around people who are consistently nice to me for no apparent reason. I'm trying to get rid of the negative mindset I tend to view things with as a result of interaction with narcissists, which is definitely a work in progress, but the meds seem to be helping with that too.

Going back to the Mercury/songwriting discussion, I just want to mention that Amy Winehouse had Mercury in Virgo, its sign of exaltation. She won an Ivor Novello award (for songwriting) three times by the age of 24.

Système, thank you for sharing that. I am happy that SD Maman's fabulousness is restored (and then some!). Thank you, too, for your wishes. I'll keep updating.

Hey tenturites!  Things have been pretty good this semester for me too--I think maybe my adrenal glands are exhausted, because I *should* feel stressed out, but I don't.

I have a campus interview next week!  Am I gonna get it, BPN?  (I miss you!)
