I'm wondering what the situation is at Tulane these days, as well as in New Orleans in general.  The previous thread on this subject hasn't been updated in almost a year.  Have things improved at all since then, or gotten worse, or both?  I just read the AAUP report censuring the school (and several others in the city), but don't really know what, if anything, that should mean to someone like me, who is in the running for a job there.  Any feedback/input/impressions/guidance/advice/thoughts of any kind would be very much appreciated.

Tulane is looking for new teachers?

But I, like others, heard it "laid off" many teachers. Many students transferred to other schools.

What happened to the students and teachers there is very sad.
But it Tulane is revived, I will be thrilled.

I spoke to the chair of one of the departments recently.  Many graduate programs have been discontinued, leading to loss of faculty, especially research-oriented faculty.  New professors are (in this particular department, anyway) expected to concentrate on undergraduate teaching to a far greater extent than in the past.  The transition has been painful with much resentment.  So I would apply to Tulane if you are interested primarily in undergraduate education and service learning (which has become part of the graduation requirements).  The son of a colleague of mine started at Tulane this fall and is loving it there.

Those I know who have left the city are extremely nervous about what would happen to their homeowners' insurance should there for another storm in the next ten years or so.

As always, each department is going to be in a different state. I'm sure this vary from department to department.

In my MLA discipline, they were looking for an advanced Assoc. prof b/c they needed help w/ their still very strong graduate program.
