Tends to have warped sense of humor

And who, pray tell, is Alanis?

Morissette ("Isn't it ironic?")

A little too ironic.  And yes, I really do think.

Conjugate (able to regurgitate lyrics with the best of 'em)

Ironically, she doesn't seem to know what the word "ironic" means.

Imagine this set of sentences:  "It was my wedding day.  All my friends were there, except Jan who was sulking because she wasn't the maid of honor.  The minister was an old childhood friend.  The caterer was excellent, and really outdid himself on the shrimp.  My mother cried.  Ironically, though, it rained."

And most if not all of her examples are equally poor examples of "irony."

(In the extended dance mix she actually says "it's like commenting on an AHA thread when you weren't even there... Isn't it ironic.")

Hey, I just said I could regurgitate lyrics; I didn't say the lyrics made sense.  :-)

You weren't at the AHA either?  Cool!  Let's take over the thread from the people who were really there.  But let's not put black flies in the white wine of people over in the Posting While Plastered thread, or they'd get violent.  :-)

Unfortunately, I think conjugate gives good advice.

It is not free-- you need to pay USD6 yo USD10 to get access in your room.

This rate seems to be rising, too, in recent years. At the Hilton, it was $12.95/24-hour period for in-room Ethernet. In the lobby, you could buy $5.95/4-hour WiFi.

They're catering to the expense-account crowd.

What sucked about the AHA is that WhiteKnight blew off the meetup!

This group of attendees was better than last year's. But that's not saying much.

The AHA sounded fun and well run this year.  I'm sorry to have missed out.  Maybe next year in NYC.

No one invited me to the get-together. Too bad--I'm the life of the party. (There is irony in that statement.)

By the way, I didn't mention the guy holding up a sign reading, "Will teach 20th-century history for food." Funny guy, that one. A journalist even interviewed him.

I had a friend ask what panels I attended, and I realized I spent all 4 days at the conference and I didn't go to a single one. Can I count our CHE meetup as one?

Yes, samspade, you can.  In fact, I put it on my vita as an "invited talk."  Not as prestigious as ORT, but still . . .

For you AHA'ers out there, just what have we learned from history?

I considered attending a few interesting panels, but realized it would be difficult to focus on the papers while rocking back and forth and vomiting in my handbag.

Hi, Mary! Nice to see you!

I didn't attend any panels.  I did however join the rest of the dumdums in line for Starbucks.  Then, I learned my lesson and made coffee in the room.  Otherwise, I fled to the Smithsonian.  I'm so at the bottom of this feeding chain that it was three days before I ran into someone I knew.

Hi, Mary! Nice to see you!

Thanks dr_dre and larryc!  I had a great time and am sending good vibes about all of our job prospects.  Really, SCs would be crazy not to hire us.  We are engaging, funny, witty, connoisseurs of fine beer--what more could they want?
