I had a phone interview over a month ago and they said they'd get back to me at the beginning of December.  I think the beginning of December is over, so I'd like to contact them to see where they are in the process (they told me it's ok to contact them).  So, what do I say?  I don't want to seem too anxious or forward, but I do want to know if I stand a chance or if they've already scheduled campus interviews (there's no info in the wiki, I checked).  Has anyone done this before?  Any advice?
Thanks.

I would simply email the SC and ask about the status of the search.  Keep it short and sweet.

Dear whomever,
I wanted to touch base with you about the X position and inquire as to the status of the search.

All best,

There are a million reasons why the SC might be delayed, especially at this point during the term, with finals gunning, grades due, etc.  If nothing's shown up on the wiki yet, it's reasonable to conclude they are still deliberating.

It is best not to annoy SCC's.  If you must, send a brief, polite e-mail to the SCC inquiring as to the status of the search:  "Dear Prof. X:  Just a quick note to inquire about the status of the job search in -------.  I enjoyed our phone interview last month and would be delighted to speak with you and the SC further, if you are interested.  Sincerely, AnxiousCandidate."

I know search committees are really busy right now, but I think I might just send a quick e-mail.  Thanks!
