Does anyone have problems using the Blackboard platform with Suddenlink cable communications.  I have high speed internet and BB especially seems to hang up when grading disicussion board forums, posting announcement, or uploading files.  Most all other websites seem to work fine.

I use the same combo and it is fine. In so far as BB is ever "fine."

Could it be your browser? I never have been able to get some parts of BB to play nice with Firefox, I have to load the hideous Internet Explorer when I use BB.

LarryC, I find quite the opposite.  Due to my computer (using XP), I've had my computer constantly crash while using IE.  Any work I do in BB I now do using Firefox (and require it of all my students, particularly for the quizzes and exams).  I wonder why?

You may need to update your Java plug-in. IE works OK with BB as long as it is completely up to date. Firefox is much better at ignoring things it doesn't understand. IE just gives up.

I'm continuously updating things (I've set it up for automatic updating).  Any other thoughts?

Java is on a different update system than Windows. Make sure IE7 has Java "on". Tools -> Internet Options -> Advanced Tab. Make sure the Java check box is "checked".

Blackboard does not like IE6

But if that is up to date, then

- You can try to redownload/reinstall IE7
- Turn off the Visual Editor in BB (Tools -> Personal Information -> Set Visual Text Box Editor Options. Then make it UNavailable

If that doesn't work, you need a sys admin to decipher things for you.

Thanks for the suggestions.  Unfortunately, IE7 doesn't work with our web-baed off-campus) e-mail system I do seem to have the same slow problem with BB/Suddenlink, whether I use my 4 year old Dell Laptop or a much newer desktop.  Firefox is set for auto updates.  Our campus IT dept. is dragging its feet trying to deal with this.  A few other faculty at our school have the same problem.
