They work pretty well - certainly better than the equivalents in the US.

I've been registered with both for ages. The 'get out' clause is that if you EVER EVER EVER ask for any info from any supplier they can... and will.... call you and phone you.

The other get out for telephone contact is that people conducting surveys are allowed to call (I guess as the political party making the rules conducts political surveys didn't want themselves shut out).

So you now have the situation:

"Hello. I'm conducting a survey. Do you have a telephone in your house?"

"Er, yes"

"Let me tell you about some new call packages my company is offering....."

I admit that I wasn't paying much attention to what they were saying, I was more interested in giving some poor droid earache by slamming down the phone as hard as possible. Grrrrrrr.
