Do American Us in Europe post jobs on MLA?

Do other non-state schools in europe?

Is there a place to search for literature positions in Europe for people who can't work within the "real system" (see thread: Is Europe even remotely accessible?)?

I found
academicjobseu.com
but it seems not to be up now. Or at least has no jobs
and the discussion section seems like nothing but spam.

I'm not sure what you mean by the "real system" but have you tried this site http://www.jobs.ac.uk/ it has job postings in academia throughout Europe.

You'll find a few of the US universities in Europe may post on jobs.ac.uk, the THES or The Guardian.

I've usually found a few more extra-UK jobs in the THES (hmm, d'you fancy the American University in Rome, merce?) rather than jobs.ac.uk, but you do have to search all three sites.

UK jobs don't come out til summer right?
So I have been planning on checking jobs.ac.uk once I discover I'm not attractive to any schools in the US. I hate that you can't apply to everything at the same time.
To commit to living in Europe I'd have to reject any chance to work in a US University. That's just so risky.
I guess I'd hoped that American Us abroad might follow the US schedule a little closer.

I am right about no jobs in lit being posted for England now right?

My apologies, I neglected to notice that you were look specifically for American Universities.

Although this is not a job board it is a resource for American U's in Europe. It's by no means exhaustive.

The American University in Rome posted a literature job on The Chronicle recently.

Nope. They come out at any time they fancy. In fact, prime time for lectureships is pretty much between now and easter (you have to give a term's notice over here, so you want your candidate lined up by the beginning of the summer term if they're going to move and start in October).

Summer is actually pretty light on the job front here. I did once get a job in July and start in August, but that was a very specialised post, and the funding had been delayed for ages.

A quick look at jobs.ac.uk pulled up 23 (albeit including post-docs) in a search on literature and English. I would expect this number to only go up in the coming weeks.

Good luck and good hunting!

Most literature actually lives under languages at jobs.ac.uk (I don't pretend to understand the logic), so if you click on the "languages" link you end up at http://www.jobs.ac.uk/sector/languages/ where you can then select various sub-fields like the subject or the type of institution. If I remember rightly, those 23 were the result of selecting English, literature, all types of jobs, all salary ranges at UK and Irish HE institutions.

It's generally best with jobs.ac.uk to leave your criteria as wide-open as possible, but to avoid the key-word search on the front page, as that merely does a simple free-text search on the text of the advert.
