I got tapped. Still trying to decide whether to reply or not.

Reply, reply!

How will they be able to ignore your opinion if you don't give it?

I'm certain they will ignore mine since about half the questions were of the "have you stopped beating your wife yet?" kind (i.e., no good answer and completely inapplicable to my situation).

Definitely reply! Why not? Consider it responding to a community census of which you are part.

Thanks for the hail out, Infopri. The job threads await!

I forgot to gripe about the fact that you have 1.2 seconds to edit a post.  Tell them about that, please.

It might also be good if you could search via a person's posts.  The "latest" thread doesn't work if you're looking for something from three months ago (I tend to remember who wrote something better than key words).

Well, the straightforward way to search someone's posts is to click on their name and then click on "show the last posts of this person".  All the posts a person has made that are still existent (i.e., not deleted by the moderators) are listed in reverse chronological order.

I wouldn't try it for someone like Prytania, but with a less prolific poster and a rough idea of the time, it's not too bad to search like this.

Your method enables one to browse a forumite's posts, but the only way to search them is through the normal search function (the main search page, not the thread-specific tab), by entering your key term(s) and the moniker of the forumite.  No guarantee you'll get the results you want, though.

Browsing the posts of any forumite who has posted more than a few hundred times is just too unwieldy.

If you have a rough idea of the elapsed time and the posting frequency, the little "jump to page" buttons at the top of the page are quite handy.

I do it frequently to check on forumites who have more than a thousand posts and it works fine for me.

But those buttons only let you jump two pages at a time!  Or do you have buttons that I don't have?

I have page links at the top and bottom of the page of the forumite's posts, and all they show is "1, 2, 3...<last#>."  If I jump to page 3, then I get "3, 4, 5...<last#>."  So there's no direct way to get to, say, page 73 of the posts.  Do you have such a way?

Nope, I have to keep clicking to get to page 73, but it doesn't bother me.

Maybe I just have a high tolerance for this procedure because it's exactly the way I have to navigate SciSearch to get to the articles I want.

Okay--but unwieldy, as I said.  I have the tolerance, sometimes--but often not the time.  It would be much easier if we could just (reliably) search for the post we want, or have a real "jump to" feature, where you could indicate the page you want and jump directly there.

I agree that an actual automated search would be better.

However, the engineer in me knew a working solution to Magistra's problem so I just had to share.
