My stats:

2 applications mailed (there were less than 20 openings in my field this year - so these 2 were the only ones that seemed to correspond with my interests/abilities/research)

2 follow-up e-mails sent, two responses received. 1 snail mail acknowledgement with Equal Opportunity form received.

3 applications for full-time positions outside of my field on the administrative track at my Ph.D granting institution, completed and under review, still need to follow up with 2 of those.

Oh, and there was one rejection already for a government job that was probably a long shot anyway.

My mood:
Anxious, but hopeful still, despite the dreary outlook. Less than 20 positions!!

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the rest of you - I hope your applications yield positive developments!!!

I'm ABD and looking for social science SLAC jobs.

-Sent out 18 applications.  No more openings have been posted in weeks, so I assume this is about it.
-Two campus interviews in the books (one looks good, one doesn't).
-Read from the wiki that 2 of my top choices started phone interviews a week ago, and I haven't heard from them.

The interview that went well will be making an offer within 7-10 days from now, so I'm hoping for the best.  I'm also applying for a post-doc, but would take this offer over the post-doc, which makes it hard to get motivated to do all of the work necessary to prepare the post-doc application (it's due roughly when the school will make its offer, so I can't afford to wait for the offer before deciding whether or not to get the application in order).

I am amazed.  I know that there are fewer science-related folks on here and this varies greatly by area of study, but the variation in the number of applications is amazing to me.  Here are my stats:
62 applications out (all done!)
6 phone interviews
3 on-campus interviews (1 down, 2 to go)
20 applications with deadlines in the next month.

I am nervous, anxious, nauseous, and excited.  I have the two-body issue, but I am hopeful that my spouse and I will find THE JOBS this year.  Reading this thread makes me feel normal....b/c everyone is in the same boat.

Mine:

15 apps (no more available)
4 out (didn't make first cut according to wiki)
1 made the first cut (conference interview, more materials)

Expectations: probably have a remote shot at 2 of the jobs.

I am ABD with an all but finished dissertation (doing final revisions) but no degree in hand yet.

I am just tired.  I am growing old in graduate school.  Getting a job in my area is pretty hard though especially for ABD.  But if I had graduated over the summer, I wouldn't be earning stipend this year and what would I live on?

I have never heard of campus interviews being scheduled before late January in my field.

In my field it's still early, conference interviews aren't scheduled until next month.  Here are my stats:

Total applications - 60
Sent out so far - 20
Phone interview - 1
Number of breakdowns - 2 so far...expecting more

I feel emotionally drained, I swear I've been happy and upset in the same minute!  I am so drained that I don't feel excited about any job add that I see anymore...SOMEONE HIRE ME PLEASE BEFORE I GO INSANE!

I'm hoping you all are doing better then me, the best of luck to all.

First time on the market, ABD (planning to defend in May and have it in a rec. letter from my supervisor), interdisciplinary humanities. Something like [Theoretical Approach] [X and Y] where X and Y are related fields.

-8 apps sent, 10 to go; have applied for everything that's even close to being in my field(s).
-Besides EEOC cards and letters saying the search committees are meeting, have heard absolutely nothing from anyone, though the earliest deadlines were only a month ago and I'm hoping that no news is good news.
-Slight geographical limitations but not severe.

Whoever first described the anxiety as a constant buzzing is right. It's always there. I'm lucky in that I have a great support system and a decent-paying adjunct gig that would be happy to keep me into next year if I strike out, but I really dislike uncertainty, and I've got a heaping helping of it on my plate right now.

I hope all of you find your dream jobs, and soon.

Wow does this all feel familiar.

Science field:
28 applications out
4 I'm out of the running
1 request for more information (questionaire)
2 phone interviews

1 nervous breakdown
1 committee meeting I'm not ready for this month
1 anxious spouse
2 anxious parents
more friends then I thought I had coming out of the woodwork to help me push through and finish everything.

8 applications out
1 phone interview complete
1 request for more material

about this phone interview.....

the posting was for a "one year temporary ass. prof." though besides the 4/4 teaching there where requirements of scholarly activities, committee involvement, student advisement, etc.....  so most of the questions I composed for the interview centered around getting a feel for how a temp. position can have so many longterm style requirements.  Turns out it is in fact a tt position that starts out as "temporary"; kind of like a probationary period.  Should I have known this prior to the call?  Am I an idiot to think that "1 yr temp" means they only want someone for 1yr?

I'm ABD in an MLA field, first year out. My stats:

-25 applications sent out. Unless I find any stragglers on the Chronicle listings, that's probably it.
          -1 request for additional information.
-3 have made requests that didn't include me (according to the wiki)

I'm really not expecting to hear anything else until December, if I'm lucky. In the meantime, I am working on the dissertation. Even more than getting a job this year, I really want to finish by May. I am so tired of having this beast hanging over me.

Thanks for the thread! I am feeling very Bridget Jones, the sequel.

I am in an interdisciplinary humanities field, ABD, first time on the market. I expect to graduate in August.

I have only sent out three applications so far. Today I will send out five applications. Then there will still be four to do. 12 total...

so far I've heard nothing.

One of the jobs to which I am applying is holding interviews at the MLA, which is not actually my field... but my adviser strongly suggested that I plan to go anyway and make all necessary reservations... now... before I hear whether or not I get the interview.

The stress is constant craziness.

ldr_rdl: re: Bridget Jones...

Totally.

Am practicing belting out "All by myself" and "Didn't we almost have it all" into a spoonful of Ben & Jerry's, should rejections arrive from Dream Jobs #1 and #2.

Oh, the drama.

I am in history and so far I have sent out over 60 applications. I am at the point I have forgotten where I have sent them to unless I look in my folder where I keep all the ads I reply to. So far I have just received emails and letters confirming they have my materials, but I am hopeful because most searches won't have yet made all their interview appointments for the AHA in January. I have a VAP right now that runs out this academic year so I am a tad desperate, hence the large number of applications.

I'm a 3rd year t/t in an MLA field:

Total applications: 8
Online Applications w/ auto acknowledge: 3
      Old-fashioned letter/email acknowledgments: 4
No response: 1 (The northeastern private R1)
Requests for materials: 2 (so far)

Three of the eight required dossier and writing sample up front, so I won't have any ideas about where I stand at those schools until mid-December.  I'm 2/5 so far with the rest.

I'm trying not to think about this until December 8th or so.

Oh my--just looked at the wiki for MLA fields.  If it actually gets updated, it could be a great source.  Has anyone used it in the past?  Does it get much action, or are the successful jobhunters too busy to post?
