Ann05 I hope they loved you too! Hang in there and let's hope you get good news soon.

BTW you did send them a thank you note after visiting them, didn't you?

Hah, after reading the thread on thank you notes, like everything apparently some people view it as essential and some people view it as egregious ass kissing.

However, I sent a thank you email. I figure I was bridging the gap.

Just in case you missed it, this poll claims that historians have one of the least stressful jobs.  Evidently, they don't mean the job of aspiring or job-seeking historian.

Ann05: I also sent thank-you notes to the committee and others who played a major role in my campus visit. And I even got back some lovely responses (and am reeeeally trying to keep myself from parsing the language to divine my status as a candidate....)

I sent a nice card to the SCC, and asked her to pass on my thanks to everyone else, most importantly the students and the admin. who coordinated so much of my stay.

Anyone else on an application marathon this weekend?  I am trying to get at least 12 more app's out before Monday and the resumption of classes.

Yup! I'm looking to churn out half a dozen fellowship applications, myself. Writing and re-writing my project proposal to tailor it to the fellowship and length they want is making me long for the October days of zipping through editing my CV and letters of application!

No, although I should be. I'll probably get a few done on Sunday, but the next batch of deadlines is a few weeks off.

Totally. I have a bunch of December 1 deadlines for postdocs. Amazing how there's always a new set of apps to file, just after you've caught your breath from the last batch....

For this year, so far:
Applications: 19
Requests for LoR's: 0
Short-lists: 0
Phone interviews: 0
Campus interviews: 0
Rejections: 5
Wikijections: 6
Crickets: 6

On the other hand, the HR drones at the USGS job for which I applied a while back have notified me that they indeed found the list of courses that I took, and that I am still in running for the job... So the rejection is a month in the future, rather than two weeks in the past.

Man, waiting to hear from the school (or not) is really, really hard.
