Good luck, thechronicle!  My fingers are crossed for you.

Three campus interviews in the past month, one of which has already hired someone else.  I should hear from the other two this week or next week.  I also have another phone interview this week.  Ah, the waiting, it is hard!

The campus interview last week went okay, except for the morning sickness that has finally sunk in.  Speaking of which - and I know this is totally the wrong place to ask this - is there a pregnancy thread anywhere?  I thought I remember seeing one...

Look on the child board about health and academia. It would be housed there.

Omgacademe, There have been a bunch of pregnancy - parenthood threads, mostly in the balancing life and work forum.

Check out this thread: http://chronicle.com/forums/index.php/topic,67029.165.html and you'll see that we've started an off-site group for academic parents (and future parents). PM thenewyorker for an invite.

Congrats and good luck.

Thing are getting interesting 'round here. While I've pretty much finished out this year on the market (waiting only on one more offer, but today was the day I'd put as my latest-possible-invitation-date according to their timeline), I've just heard some inside news about a soon-to-be advertised VAP at nearby dream U, (and the TT search that will follow next academic year). I don't want to get my hopes up, but it's really exciting news.

Who knows, prephd?!  Surprises can be just around the corner!

Things got less interesting here today--no trip to STTS (see above).  Couldn't afford the approximately two-grand it would have cost to get there on such short notice, for which I would not be reimbursed (gah!).  Plus, the red flags started waving when I learned that it was going to be a 'cattle call'--5-6 initial interviewees (all the same day!) meeting with the SC for one hour apiece, only to wait to see who would be 'culled' and who would go forward for a second one-hour meeting the following day.  No socializing, no campus tour, no meals...one hour.  Period.  For that, I had the "privilege" of incurring $2000 more in credit card debt??  I don't think so.

Ick. Sounds like a good call. Glad I'm not the only one turning down interviews that seem out of left field. Or just plain desperate.

Yes, I'm pretty sure I dodged a bullet there.  The thing that weirded me out the most was that this was for a mid-level academic adminicritter position--one where people skills and such would seem to be important, and maybe meeting with some faculty other than the SC might matter.  One hour seems terribly insufficient for that sort of evaluation, from both sides of the table.

Plus, there are palmetto bugs there, so it's probably just as well.

I'm on a research trip and I'm renting a place.  Last night, I was awoken around 2 AM by a rattling sound in the bathroom (located across the hall from me).  You can guess what was making the noise.  The thing was investigating my plastic water cup on the sink but darted for cover when I turned on the light.  FREAKED. ME. OUT.  I then had trouble falling asleep because every odd tickle and tingle made me jump.

So, congrats on avoiding those.  Terrifying.

In other news, I have no job news.  So, see you all here next year.  *sigh*

It's worse when you convince yourself that the tickle isn't actually a cockroach (or palmetto bug... whatever) and then you turn on the light and realize it IS.

Yay Texas. Happy Dreams!

Phone interview for a VAP on Friday... likely my last grab at a branch before I fall all the way out of the tree and hit the ground hard...

I'm still in process here. Three No. Three interviews (two phone, one campus). Three crickets. I still hope to hear from at least one of the crickets, since their opening is accepting applications till April 15.

I'd really like to hear from one of the crickets, but it's not the one likely to call. Too bad.

I am finding this very stressful. I've done as much as I know how to do.
