Two more requests this week - that makes four in one week. And I have already gone through the "not this year" grieving process. Now I have to set up the pins and needles again. Which is good.

Congratulations to everybody with good news - there's so much I can't keep up! I love that. Also, I think this:

Now I have to set up the pins and needles again.

is my new favorite way of describing this particular facet of the emotional process involved in the job search. Good luck, cw4ca!

I had a phone interview this week. That went all right. The folks love their school and their students, which is good.

I was supposed to receive a call about my status on another position this week. I know we can't count on them being on time, but I thought it would be, since I actually know the chair of the department. But it wasn't. So I am "setting up the pins and needles" too.

Any news, compdoc and others?

I had a campus interview that went pretty well and another request for a phone interview.  The phone interview is scheduled way in advance and I hope to have an offer by then, but it is still nice to know that they want to talk with me.  OMGembryo (it is an embryo now rather than a zygote) has stuck around so far.  Yay!  Hopefully, it will stick AND the morning sickness won't start until after the interviews are all finished :)

Just got a rejection from my first choice today. At least they were humane enough to send me a rejection after less than a month. There's still that interview from November I haven't heard back from yet.

So, Stats:

Apps: 20+
Phone Interviews: 7
Campus Interview Invites: 5
Campus Interviews: 4
Offers: 1
Rejections: 1
Still waiting to hear from: 2
Crickets: 13 or so
New Jobs: 0
Gin & Tonics: 3, so far tonight

OMG, glad to hear your campus visit went well. Mine will be on Tuesday. I also have a phone interview the Monday after (3/29).

Yeah, for OMGembryo. Glad s/he is hanging in there.

Yes, you definitely don't want baby sickness while interviewing!

Yay!!!! Go you! :D

As for potential morning sickness: if it does hit, then try either the Unisom/vitamin B6 combo (you can google the proportions, as I'm not quite sure of them) or the drug Diclectin, which is the exact same thing with a time-release coating (if you're in Canada or have access to a Canadian pharmacy). Speaking as a recently pregnant woman who had morning sickness so bad it almost landed me in the hospital: it is totally safe and it WORKS. Diclectin saved my life/sanity/productivity.

So I've turned down an interview offer. I have had it. I have just completely had it. I've used over 12 vacation days going on interviews this year. I've had 14 meals with SCs and their various incarnations. I've been in 13 states, 6 airports, 4 train stations, and too many Starbuckses to count.

I just can't take another interview right now.

This interview was in a place that I'm pretty sure I'd love to live and work, but I sent the application in Sept., hadn't heard a peep since then, and then got an e-mail this week congratulating me for being a final candidate and telling me my interview was scheduled on X date (one week away). Fifteen hundred miles away. Two time zones over.

Huh?

I politely wrote that I was unfortunately unable to totally screw the commitments I'd already made for next week without making myself look like a total jerk, and so would unfortunatley have to ask them to take their interview and shove it.

So, that's all for me, folks. I'm still waiting to hear from one place that I would say yes to if they offered a position. After the rest of the interviews, the grass is certainly looking mighty green right where I am right now.

Next year, I will be more fully prepared to be more selective. I think I felt a real sense of urgency to leave my current position. But now, I know more fully what I'm looking for. I think I'm prepared to wait a couple years if I have to do that.

More precisely, I think I've decided that I'm that most horrible kind of East Coast snob who can only live within 30 miles of I-95 between Richmond and Boston.

Sorry to hear that, prephd. I've had interview burnout, too, but I think I've never turned one down for a job I really wanted. I have turned down a few that were marginal.

It's unfortunate to limit your search thusly, but very fortunate that you now know yourself better and can search more appropriately. Good luck!
