Swellgirl and A_L, I'm sorry for your wiki troubles.  But your posts made me laugh out loud, and I really needed that, so thanks!

I had to share that I sat down to revise my teaching statement this morning.  It is now a full page shorter, just in time for a new round of applications going out on monday.  Go me!

Slightly peeved that one of my jobs has been frozen - and yes, I heard it on the Fora first.

I totally understand.  I am looking on the bright side, though.  For example, another job in my area was listed yesterday.

Nothing like realizing there was a small typo in one's c.v., after one has sent out almost every last application.....grr.

Yes, I know that pain.  Fortunately, it was a small one, and not (for instance) misspelling your own name or the name of the institution from which you earned your degree.  Right?

My current institution's automatic shortcut software¹ would suggest how to fill in common terms.  So if it saw you were starting to write "Compass Point State University" it would prompt you to let it fill in the name of the school, with the word "University" misspelled as "Univeristy."  I don't know how many official documents, letters from administrators to other schools, etc. went out from here with the school's name misspelled on the official return addresses.  Ooops!

¹Just MS Word's autoprompt feature in all the standard installations around campus.

You people are worried about not hearing anything from a school three weeks after the deadline?!  I can top that.

I received an email last week that said "You had a strong application, but we have filled that position".   This position had a closing date of 10/15.  Yes, in less than a month, they filled an endowed chair that had some very strict eligibility requirements.

So middle-of-nowhere, four-people-in-the-science-department schools take months to even make up the short list, but a research II school with an endowed chair can do a whole search in less than a month.

The people at the small schools have bigger teaching loads and way more service and other responsibilities.  I've been at a small school where it was understood that I was on every committee that had anything to do with my department.

I would hazard a guess that they also knew who what they were looking for in that endowed chair.

Got a Frozen Search letter in the mail today.  It's a very sincere, well-written letter that makes me appreciate how frustrating this whole situation is for departments and SCs, and not just for applicants.

It asks me to reapply when the search is reopened, since I am a "young, extraordinarily accomplished scholar".  I need the confidence boost at the moment so I am going to imagine that this sentence was written especially for me.

I'm certain that it was tailor-made for you.

I can't take it this job season.

I also got a frozen search letter this week. As well as a run-of-the-mill rejection letter.

Consulting is looking more and more like the short-term route for me. Two local schools have their searches frozen, but they're talking with me about signing up on a consulting basis.

I found out this morning three of my searches have now been canceled, including one I was ideally suited for. I hope to hell the spring sees a wave of visiting jobs or I might be forced back into adjunct hell.
