ARGH!!

Job description that includes more interesting classes than EagleU, tolerable location, invitation by one of the SC members to apply, but so not a good idea for me to be on the market until the dissertation is done. Someone please tell me to NotAFTDJ. I can take it. Really.

In keeping with the thread mandate, I shall not, in fact, tell you DNAFTDJ. Instead, I shall exhort you to FTDD, and then AFTDJ.

So AFTDJ.

Dr. Anakin sits high and mightily in her office while she condemns students to lives of misery and drudgery, washing out their husbands' underwear in filthy water. In addition, she is a horrible teacher. She welcomes you to Introduction to Biology!

Bingo.

Finish the diss.  And AFTDJ, if you like that gig better than the one you currently have.

Just to be obvious, FTDD = finish the damn diss.

Hey all-I need a reminder....

I have been agonizing over applying for a job for nearly two months. It is a potentially great opportunity in a somewhat depressed economic location. Schools are questionable, scenery superb, people friendly. Super interesting place.

I keep thinking that if I applied and changed my mind, I would be a cretin. And I don't want to bug my referees again. Yet, I cannot easily dismiss it either. Why should I apply again? Or not? Thanks.

Generally in cases of career change (which I seem to vaguely remember it is applicable in your case), candidates first look for less desirable places as starting points. Then they can look at climbing the ladder.

So I'll go for the AFTDJ advice.

What?? This is not a why thread. Because I said so. Because your mother has been looking forward to your visit. Because you'll get plaque. But since you asked: you apply because you want that job, sure, but also because you want to do something a little harder, be a little better, not have any regrets, because you'll have nothing to choose among unless you do, and because your commitment to these things matters more than your reservations. So AFDTJ already and go floss.

You've just described where I live. I love it here! I'm so glad I AFTDJ!  Now, you go apply and when you get the job here we can meet for lunch regularly. :o)

FS started a why thread with this post about a week ago.
