Hubby Bubba and I had not planned to visit the US during the Christmas break this year. But the continuing slide of the dollar is making me rethink this plan. We really can't 'afford' the trip (we spent WAY too much on our several summer holidays)... but it is really tempting with the dollar at 2.10 to the pound.

Any of you thinking the same or planning a US trip?

Yep. I never go stateside at Christmas because of the crazy rates, but this year, I'm going.

Yup. Hubby's got a business trip the first/second week of December and I'm racking my brains to try to come up with an excuse to make at least part of it.

Of course, being a risk manager, and therefore constitutionally predisposed to the preservation of capital, hubby's equally racking his brains for reasons why I shouldn't come on the trip!

Will be going to a conference on the west coast in December then staying on for a week to do research. Think I'll be shipping back new clothes!

I see you have a perfect understanding of why my husband is looking for excuses to not have me along ;-)

ooohhhh.... Science Expat.... can I order some stuff and have you ship it for me????  *laugh* Of course I'll pay the shipping costs!

That's the main reason why I want to go to the US. I've found things like a 100% cashmere coat at Sierra Trading for $500... marked down from 1500.... which in Brit terms is 250....

and then if you don't like cashmere... they've got a camel hair one that would be 100 quid!

I probably have to fly a long way East in mid-January and have very little spare time between teaching ending this semester and assignment grades being due back for two classes, so it looks like I will miss out on the bonanza. I wonder what will have happened by the summer (conference trip)?

I was planning on going next summer for about a week to go to a wedding. I will probably extend my stay with the extra cash and go on a more extended vacation. I haven't done that in a few years now.
