Thanks again, all.
ExPat, I can't be sure but I think my institution is pretty gender blind.

It's not procrastination. It's "just in time" delivery.

Seriously.... who in their right mind WANTS to go into admin?
OK... I need to rephrase that because it's showing MY hate of admin work.
Who here does want to go into admin? I'm a Professor and I don't...

In an ideal world I would not want to go into admin, but because some of the administrators seem to get it so horribly wrong so often I often find myself doing their job for them. If I have to do the administrators' I want their salary on top of mine for doing both jobs - I don't seem many admin types around the place at 8 pm when I am trying to disentangle the mess resulting from a daft policy decision on course delivery, or examination practices or........

I think Dean is one of those posts that if you want to do it, you are the wrong person for the job, because you won't understand why everyone else doesn't feel the way you do...
So congratulations on your professorship, and long may you stay that way!
