Maybe I'm missing something, but it appears that once you've made a post, it's there for all eternity, unable to be edited.  Would it really be that hard to change this so that one could go back and update/alter/remove identity-revealing information?

Can we please do this?

You can click on "modify" and change your post,  but there's only a window of time during which to do this.

If you opened up the "modify" window indefinitely, I think that would just confuse previous conversations if you decide to go back and edit what you've already said.  It's hard enough to keep track of moniker changes, especially for those forumites who are fond of recasting themselves.

So, yes you can edit for a bit, but the limited nature of this function simply means- watch what you say from the beginning, so you don't have to regret anything later.

[I've added the bracketed text after the fact.  See the noted modification below]

I am not surprised that you are confused ... [t]hat confusion may well be chronic if not congenital.

If you want something taken out that is too identity revealing, email the moderators and they will remove it for you.

After you have posted, you have about 3 minutes to modify.

If we could change our posts indefinitely, I would wait until the mods were off line and start huge flame wars. Then when everyone was all freaking our from my repeated provocations and typing swear words and stuff I would go back and edit my posts to make me a gentle lamb and a victim. Then everyone but me would get banned.

I like it!

And Larry, just what would you do on the fora all by yourself?

I am not a professor at all, despite what I say.

I understand not being able to edit... but one should be able to delete in perpetuity... perhaps leaving behind a "This post was removed by the author."
