Ok... my FARKING Council... which is useless... has decided that we are to Recycle... so they only will pick up trash every other week... and pick up recyclables every other week. I'm an American... who has actually lived in NY and seen what a mess the bottle bill caused... but that's another matter.

For the past couple of weeks I've been washing out all kinds of crap and putting in the freaking recyling bin... and now  they refuse to empty it because they say it's the WRONG kind of crap.

So... no more recyling.. it's all in the garbage.

So far my council is staying with weekly pickups.

But my university is playing games.  They want us to recycle - fine.  But they have hired an "environmental officer" who is succeeding only in pissing everyone off.  She has decided that we all need to be "retrained" into new ways of thinking about trash, so they are TAKING AWAY OUR BINS for some unspecified period, we will have to take everything to a central location in the building to dispose of it.

I am sorely tempted to go out and buy some mice & let them loose in the building.  That ought to put a stop to this nonsense.

My council did this a while back...trash vs recyclables alternate weeks. Don't they give you a mind-numbingly lengthy list of "Yes in the green bin" and "No in the green bin"?
Do give it a second chance.
(But just wait till the weeks around christmas, when the collections are shuffled around and cancelled. Depending on what day your area gets its pick-up, you can end up with 4 weeks-worth of rubbish. Nasty.)

We've had a nice calendar of when collections are, an extra collection over Christmas, and I have to say, I'm really happy with the new system apart from the FOUR recycling bins they left us with - we have a tiny back yard.

But they took two of them away, have promised us a hessian bag for paper, and to be honest since I was already sorting glass and plastic bottles (to take to a recycling centre near the supermarket) and paper and tins (which they were already collecting) it's  not that much hassle to add cardboard to the list.

The only people in our street who've had stuff left behind have been the ones who left yoghurt pots in with the plastic bottles (how hard is it to tell a bottle from a pot, I ask you!) and we did get our cardboard left behind the first week but I it's been picked up twice since and I think the little men hadn't got their heads round it the first time - they'd never had to do cardboard before.

We are supposed to put yoghurt stuff in the same bin as the bottles. And cardboard goes with grass clippings.

We were remiss in that we put plastic bags in the plastic bin... no no no... plastic bags are garbage and not recycled.
