Baptist College, Alabama.

Bobby Bowden is their most famous alumnus.

I once ate in the cafeteria there.  It wasn't very good.

Samford University is a Baptist affiliated Christian university supported by the Alabama Baptist Convention (a subset of the Southern Baptist Convention).  Roughly half of the students are not Baptist, though.

It's a pretty good school = perceived as high quality. It is large for a private university in Alabama.  It also has law school, pharmacy school, divinity school, etc.  These schools have good reputations as well.

Two of my family members studied there, by the way.

I believe Samford does hire non-Christians (do not think "Bob Jones U" here, please).

Seriously:  If you check their website, you'll find some fairly serious language about their "Christian commitment."  And if you go to their HR page--which I just did; took me about 45 seconds to find it--you will find that the standard employment application asks explicitly for your "denominational preference" and which church or congregation you are currently a member of.  So they're not joking, though it's a far cry from Bob Jones U., Cedarville, et al.

As Case says, the school's reputation is quite good in the lower South (Alabama and adjacent states).  It is in fact the largest private u. in Alabama.

This was interesting:
Undergraduate Enrollment by Religious Affiliation, Fall 2007

I bet this is a bit different from BJU, for instance.

Which is like being the best sloop skipper in New Mexico.

You've got to chase your dreams, Nardo.  No one else will.  No dream is too small.  Skip that sloop, I say.

Often gets confused with Stanford U, especially by people who hear people who mumble their consonants.

Or people with mumbly ears.
