Besides, from what I can tell, and as suggested by the title of this thread (as well as the article about it), there haven't been inroads in the old discipline of philosophy, and I can tell you that at my university it remains a very inhospitable discipline for minorities and women.
Of course I can't speak to your university. There are a lot of prominent female philosophers today, though... Nussbaum, Korsgaard, Cartwright, etc. There aren't many African-Americans at the same level of prominence, I grant you, but very few seek Ph.D.s in the humanities. I can promise you that a talented female philosopher, or one of color, will be a very hot commodity on the job market.
