while other universities were giving furloughs and cutting jobs, Drake gave salary increases and increased the professional development money for all faculty. financially stable university, at this economy what else would you want?

A champion who uses standard capitalization, grammar, and spelling on this academic forum?

(Sorry.  Some days I just can't help myself.)

Sorry, Banna.  I was suggesting that the egregious command of standard written English evident in your earlier post tended to undermine your claims on Drake's behalf.

I should have made that clearer.

OK, here's something a bit more to your orthographic tastes.

I don't know much about Drake, but I spend lots of time in Iowa, since my wife's family are all there (is all there? Whatever). I love Iowa. I spend most of my time around Ames, which is not a big city, but the University there does improve the situation immeasurably. The caucuses are unbelievably interesting every four years, if that's  your thing. Drake is probably financially stable because the IA unemployment rate is quite low. Adam Nagourney had an article in the NYT some time ago about how Des Moines is not the dreary little town it used to be, and that there's a lot of interesting things happening there. No, Des Moines is not Chicago, nor, to its benefit, is it Minneapolis-that-thinks-it's-the-center-of-the-universe. I'd live in Iowa in a heartbeat, and I am a bi-coastal city kid.

my moniker is bana_bana, you may want to check http://chronicle.com/forums/index.php/topic,63473.msg1389587.html#msg1389587

As far as Des Moines, locals call it "a small town in a big city", or "a big city in a small town". Drake has good reputation among its peers in Iowa, may depend on the college you are working/ applying for. I visited Des Moines couple of times, fun, lovely city; winters might be a different story though.
