Anyone see her "Marilyn" spread in New York Magazine? Pretty fantastic breasts, even with that fake tan.
She looked more like Mrs. Robinson from "the Graduate" than she did Marilyn Monroe. it's kind of sad that someone so young could look so beaten down, considering her advantages. No, they were good breasts.

Jimmy Buffet music Deer Hunting (sorry if you don't like it, but they taste great) Searching for thematic humor on the internet (academic humor, etc.) Reading maps (cheaper than actually taking a trip) Harry Potter (books and movies) Trivia (did you know Beethoven left several shirts at the laundry when he moved)

A case of Coors Light and a drive down the riverbed, mud-bogging ... and a stop at the recycling center on the way home.

Wow! Some of you might be astounded, followed by mild revulsion, were you assess the mentality of the professoriate as instantiated in these ramblings. The real Mandarins didn't make it into the 21st century. How much longer will those who see themselves as privileged classes, beyond accountability, survive?

Oh, what an unusual indulgence. To whom are you referring? None of the academics I know "see themselves as privileged classes, beyond accountability." That description appears to me to describe politicians; are we doing a politician rant? There are also a good many civil servants whom that sentence describes, so perhaps that's what is meant? And if you think this thread is bad, you should... No, I won't encourage anybody. Enough's enough.

As for myself, I try to avoid indulgences of any kind. I spend my non-academic time conferring with wiser heads, pondering (yes, just pondering), preparing outlines of my own collected letters (they will be very valuable someday), and choosing which dead language I will attempt to learn next. But in my rare moments of weakness, I admit that I do wish for a hot cup of tea, a hand-crocheted afghan nestled around my knees, a cat enjoying the reflected warmth of the hearth, and an exquisite bound volume of Keats. Ah, Keats.

I know a wetlands ecologist who ponders. Sometimes, because of environmental problems, he ponderously ponders ponds despondently. However, he's often cheerful. Tea, cat, and (in my case) Tennyson, or perhaps Wordsworth. Certainly not Kipling. I believe it's not common for academics to Kipple.

Listening to Danzig, Led Zeppelin, or the Chili Peppers (among others) in my car so loud it makes my ears ring. Watching "The First 48," "Rob & Big," and "Dancing with the Stars." NASCAR. Pork rinds. Watching skateboarding. My secret plan is to buy a skateboard for myself (nearly 20 years since I bought my last one) once my son is old enough for one.
