I agree with LarryC on the use of "hu". I also approve a suggestion made early on these boards to instead of using he/she , to use s/he/it, which is both gender-neutral, animate-inanimate neutral, and fun to say.
Rather than s/he/it, I've always preferred s/h/it. It's easier to pronounce. The Fiona Clearly, you are not from Texas.

The CHE, in violation of our rules: http://chronicle.com/jobs/id.php?id=0000519358-01Williamette has posted an ad with a variety of positions, where the names of disciplines are given without capital letters. This includes american (studies), german, russian, etc. It hurts me to type those words without capitals. I think I won't apply.

I too won't apply, nor will my cats. The Fiona

I do not wish to start a debate on 'hu'.
However, I would like to send my opinion on it off into cyberspace:
Using 'hu' is stupid. Use he or she...if you don't know a person's gender, then refer to them using their name/handle.

1. It is hard to read posts that do not have conventional capitalization and so, emulating the great The Fiona, I do not read those posts. They make my eyeballs hurt. 2. I use 'she' as the default person in my professional writing and, sometimes, here, though I am perfectly comfortable with hu as well.

Do you hail from Planet Hello Kitty? It's like an action movie, but boring.
