I do not understand why those girls wear such tight clothes that they actually create spillover rolls etc. Do they think it's attractive? Do you old pervs guys like to see all those rolls? I just don't get it.

I'm not sure why someone would want one, but I had a pair of jeans shrink and ended up with a 1-day muffin top. I didn't realize I had the dreaded muffin top going on until I got to school. I got rid of those jeans. Quickly.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I do think the muffin top phenomenon came when the low-rise jeans/hips-hugger pants came in/back. Girls get these pants that are tight and then their midriff spills over the top of the so-called waist. Most of them, I believe, are completely unaware of how awful it looks and actually think they look "hot." I've had a few students come to private lessons with said muffin. Ugh. I stare at their torso to watch breath support action and get to gaze upon their lovely baked goods. Fun for all.

I certianly appreciate those students who come in with clothing that actually fits nicely.

I'm noticing on my campus that clothing trends seem to have changed.  Last year, loads of whale tail.  This year, the "baby doll" top seems to be in.  As these shirts are a bit longer and "floatier", they cover whale tail, butt cleavage, and muffin top.  However, these tops tend to have plunging necklines, and now their breasts are spilling out all over the place.

Scary:  bare midriff with jewel when it's 15 or 20 F outside.  Jacket optional.  Ow!  Boyfriend is likely to have only T on during same temperatures.

Yes, onion, I was noticing that in DC. Lots of tunic tops, but with a V-neck. I like the longer tops, but could never wear that sort of neckline.

Those look like maternity tops. Not that that is a bad thing compared to the stripper look.

Why are you assuming that this issue only occurs with "girls"?

Ah, yes, the tight man pant with the visable man thong, and tight man top (looks like he borrowed his kid sister's top) and nail polish, make up, and more effort exerted on his hair than I exert on my own.

Whew, and that's just for class! Wait until you see what they wear to go out...

It's been a few years, but I used to have a young male student come to my 7:30 a.m. class with glitter on his face, fresh (?) from a rave.  He told me he took off his wings, though, before he came to class.

Look at the message they get on MTV and such...dressing like a hootchie is hwat.

I've see a few guys wear some questionable stuff, but the biggest problem is that they seem not to do laundry all term and come to every class in the same vile-smelling stained t-shirt and jeans.

Low-rise pants don't need to be tight to cause a muffin top. It's the nature of the low-rise beast.

Thankfully (?), the skinny jean has moved the low-rise into second place. For the younger set, it's all about late 70s/early 80s revival.

At least the metrosexual thing doesn't seem to have hit our campus.

Oh, not necessarily.  At least in the sense that pouring yourself into a pair of skinny jeans when you are not skinny produces obvious, unattractive bulges in other places.  Not to mention that you can count the dimples on their _____ in those tight jeans or worse the leggings.  But they think they look good.  Yes, I shook my head several times this week.

Me too.  Most of my male students are still rocking the giant jeans and NFL jersey look.  Or giant tee shirt, which I have heard referred to as the "ghetto gown" by those who wear them.  I am not subjected to much man flesh on my campus.

Oh, of course. But "skinny jeans" refers to the cut of the pant - it has a thin, very tapered leg -  not to the physical attributes of the wearer. And at least the bulges are higher up, and more likely to be covered by a top. Hopefully the wearer is at least wearing the correct size.

The problem, of course, with skinny jeans is that unless you've got the body of a 10 year old, you'll almost inevitably look like a snowball with sticks for legs. They simply do not create an attractive silhouette. Period.
