The PUF (presses universitaires de France) have a collection where the cover -- the front cover -- is a picture of the scholar himself.

The whole idea is fantabulous but I must say you didn't choose any of the "best" examples. I'm not going to go there because that would be just too mean, but there are some profs who really, really need not be photographed up close in glaring white light.  There is one woman I just am dying to paint some blush onto. Argh!

I know it exists, but I  still can't believe it's true. Such snobbery is so shameful for french research...
