I'm still having a bit of a pity party, as foretold on another thread a couple of days ago, but not as much as I'd anticipated. Here's why:
--I met with a client and got paid and got the files for a decent editing job today. --I requested and was assigned 8 encyclopedia entries for a really neat collection yesterday--not much pay, but they'll be fun to do and get me back to some (easy, and interesting) research and writing again, to lesen the brain-mush I've been heading towards. --I just got confirmation that I've been assigned two other book chapters for a reference work--this time, bios/assessments of two famous figures I've long admired. Again, fun, not hard work. --I applied far and wide for a lot of telecommute paid editing/proofing jobs to enhance the income, and I should be a shoo-in for at least two of them (which, if they come through, will keep me as busy as I want to be).
Oh, and the entries and chapters will be good for the c.v.--in case I do have to go back to faculty, I need to be doing some stuff toward promotion in a year or two. (I could go next year, but since I didn't do my dissertation/pay for the hours, I need to get a few more grad hours somewhere to be eligible.)
Anyway.....inhaling.
Amlithist, I definitely need to get on the ball like you are; I've been having some brain mush and blues about it myself. So, what can I find to inhale about? The dishes are cleaned and we have a couple of easy options for dinner tonight. Also, I own a clothes dryer. I went over a year without one and I've had this one now for over six months but every time I use it, I'm filled with gratitude.

We got snow!
*peeks out of the corner of her eye, looking for Octoprof*
It was only an inch or so, and it is now sleeting and raining, but we got out and played in it! WallyWorld got some small plastic sleds out of storage and we grabbed one, so Genni sledded down some of our slopes this morning.
However, I am now worried about GD, who is coming home early to avoid the worse ice later. Some idiot nearly swerved into him a minute ago.

I'd offer you a place to hide, but as I said on the other thread, she knows where I live and besides, I share a house with Gennidad!

A student in one of my classes last semester came by and said, "I just wanted to come by and let you know that you're pretty awesome. I saw you earlier and you looked like you could use a kind word, so I hope that helps."
That was nice.

A former student from some years back and hundreds of miles away, connected to me on Linked In today. When we first met, he was an MIS major.
His connection message was: "Dr. Octo, remember I used to tell you that the first time I enjoyed accounting was when I took your classes? You mentioned to me that if I could join IT with Accounting it will be very good. I am at Deloitte now working as an IT Auditor."
Yea.
