I recently finished my dissertation and have begun talks with an academic press about publication.  The press wants to know whether or not the manuscript is available through Proquest, which will affect the revisions I need to do.  My question is this:  should I make my dissertation available through Proquest or not?  I believe I submitted it to Proquest but it is not up on the dissertation database yet; I wonder if I can stop that ball from rolling and whether is would be desirable to do so if I can.  Advice?  Details on the tradeoffs involved?

question-how does your university handle dissertations for the library's collections? Some have them in a repository in original digital format, some have all of them sent to Proquest, some still have the paper copy of theses and dissertations in the library, Special Collections, departmental libraries, etc. There must be a convention for dealing with dissertations at your university. Some are dispensing with paper now and just going to archival digital, etc.
If there is no repository copy, and no copy in ProQuest, you would be limiting distribution of your dissertation in that original copy to readers and researchers. I am not sure of the other detriments to not having your dissertation in Proquest-it is a heavily-used database at my institution for those doing research.

I just was wondering how your institution usually handles all dissertations, or whether there is a mandate for inclusion in repository, library, ProQuest, Special coll/archives, etc.
