I've got the liquor and the blender!

I feel like the blue pill is being shoved down my throat. I have oodles of teaching experience, I've won national and international fellowships, I have a book under advance contract, I've been anthologized, for heaven's sake, and I have yet to land a TT position. I came within grasp of one this year, and then they decided not to fill positions due to the economy. It is unlikely I will get that close again this year. And next year? Sheesh!

I know!  I'm in the same boat.  Grrrr.

Another passenger for this ugly boat, please.
As long as we're all in the this same boat, why not take a cruise over to the Bahamas?

Awesome.  Since none of us are TT, we're not too old for a crazy spring break.  (Besides, I never really went on won as an undergrad - I was always doing something gainful and wholesome.  We need a DSMs Gone Wild-type break.)

Wow, I've never seen a solar blender before! Hey, this is some brainy boat. We are so smart, so sexy, so unemployed! Where shall we go? We can go anywhere: No one gives a damn about us!

And, we'll even give you 9 credit hours if you join us!

Oh wait.  That's the study abroad boat.

I'm going to forget my irrational fear of being in a boat out of sight of land and say, woo hoo! Let's get plastered and sail (or cruise) someplace warm.

Forget the pills; let's do alcohol!

Yah, but no one actually does work on those boats, right?

(recalling complaints I've heard from undergrads on study abroad programs about having to do, you know, assignments and stuff...)

Mine would probably sail into the Bermuda Triangle...and end up like the Mary Celeste.

Sail to Australia, 'The land of opportunity'. The current job market stinks, but I am trying to avoid the alcohol to make the most of the jobs that are available. Has anyone tried UniJobs.com.au - they say they list academic jobs from every University in Australia? Here's hoping that might help me secure an interview at least!

How 'bout we cruise to Bimini first? It's a touch closer.

As long as it's not snowing there.

Trust me, the academic job market in Australia is not better than in North America.

It wouldn't surprise me after the weather we've been having here.  But any weather in Bimini -- barring a cyclone --  is better than beautiful weather in Job Search Land.

Is there beautiful weather in Job Search Land?  According to my personalized Weather Underground webpage, the long-term and short-term forecasts are:  gloomy, with intermittent periods of icy showers and howling, glacially cold winds.   A high-pressure system just went through, and now an arctic depression is setting in, and will stay around for an unforeseen period.
