Schedule is fuzzy still, but it's looking as if I could do a meetup somewhere like:

  7th-15th: Paris/Burgundy/environs

  24th-25th: Bruxelles or thereabouts

  29th-Paris

Food? Other activities (concerts, museums, dancing?)

Post or PM, we'll figure it out!

How am I?: There are four levels: Alive, Alert, Awake & Functioning. Right now, I'm standing upright & moving forward.

I'll be there the first week of February but in Orleans, tied up with a conference (1-3)/library work (4-5)...home the 6th...

If you're near Oreleans, though, that might be a possibility...

I still need to schedule an exam, but I might be able to manage the 24th or 25th. You mentioned Brussels or whereabouts - there are a number of interesting things to do there, with the Europalia series of exhibitions (on China). I might also recommend Ghent, which is a lovely medieval city with wonderful architecture and art, as well as a number of Europalia exhibitions as well.

I've not visited Ghent, have been to Bruges, but will probably won't be able to do that this time

I will be going through Bruxelles to work in the library, and then to Liege, to visit family.

I would be glad to meet up in Bruxelles, if you have a spot in mind..

(I mostly get to the library, the train station, and once the US Embassy, to replace a stolen passport!)

At least maybe this trip I can visit the Cathedral, the capitol building, and see a few other things!

Open to suggestions...

Admittedly, I don't know my way very well in Brussels - although I can probably get around. Note, though, that 'the train station' isn't saying very much, given that there are about six of those in the city. Anyways, depending on when that exam ends up scheduled, I'm up for it.

I've not visited Ghent

Ghent is on my list of places to see before I die.  For the Van Eyck, of course

Oh, yes, I'd forgotten that's where that is...hmmmm....a possible worthwhile side trip after all!!

And, yes, I realized, the train "stations" is better--I know of the three main ones, having at various times gotten off at the wrong one (the midi and the centrale are close enough, but the nord is a bit far to walk...) as well.

There was a discussion recently about a large public sculpture somewhere in the area; that might be interesting, if there were places to eat nearby, or something...

Allright, I need to get the maps out anyway...let's see what's where...

Ghent is some fourty minutes by train from Brussels, if I recall correctly. I might have it wrong by about five minutes, though. For the record, other landmarks: the Gravensteen, the Cathedral et cetera.
