The uterus is not a clown car!

OK, I'll admit, I've heard of this family and been completely wigged out by their wacko ideas for ages, but I thought I'd offer some fodder for the forum. I wonder how many more births it will take before her uterus falls out. That happens, you know.

Out of 17 kids, at least one has to be gay. I wonder how they'd handle that. Poor kids. Hopefully one will rebel soon enough, but it looks like they're pretty well brainwashed.

I have an ancestor that had 18 children, including 2 sets of twins.  Ug.  But that was revolutionary war time, when birth control was a lot less reliable...

Did you read Twisty's take on this family? It's quite a riot. I'd give the link, but I don't want to tempt any of the anti-women posters to go over there and make fools of themselves.

For that, IBTP.

My great grandmother was one of 22 children. The first wife had the first 11, the second the second 11. This would be turn of the (last) century. I think i have seen a few minutes of the program on this family on TV. If I remember correctly the older daughter has rebelled a bit and moved out, but also has a child who is now older than it's new aunt.

The point of having a lot of children had a lot to do with economics and death. If you had 18 kids, you figure 10 of them would live to be adults. Out of 10 kids, 1 of them would take care of you in your old age. In times or places where there is no social security or retirement, your kids are insurance.

Concerning Mrs. Duggar: her body, her uterus.

This case is to pro-choice absolutists (abortion on demand at any point in the pregnancy) what flag burning is to staunch supporters of the First Amendment.

I totally agree that she gets to do what she wants with her uterus, but she's still loads of fun to ridicule. The hair, oh, the hair!

I knew I'd heard of that family before.  I think it was from Twisty.

The woman can have as many children as her and her husband want, but I'm with noodled on this one.

She's loads of fun to ridicule?  Why her?  Why her hair?

And no, I don't think we should allow ourselves to ridicule her (or him) at all.  What if she had announced to the world she has had 17 abortions?

I am only pleading for logical consistency here.  And kindness.

I would ridicule someone who has had 17 abortions. Fair is fair.

What I don't understand about having loads* of children is...

How does one work up the energy and motivation to conceive? An active sex when there are lots of kids in the house...I just can't imagine.

Takes all kinds, I guess.

*(By loads, I mean more than two.)

I wonder how they manage to conceive as well with that many kids in the house. He must work quickly.

The fact that the family is free to choose this course doesn't mean it's not a stupid choice.  That's the challenge of liberty, n'est-ce pas?  (I'm also strongly against criminalizing flag burning, which is also stupid on the whole, though the one thing that would make me want to burn a flag would be if it were criminalized, as that would be more of a mockery of the flag than the burning of it.)

Just thought you'd like this:

BTW:  I love these nuts.  They have a way of life that is SO different from mine.  I mean, they HOME SCHOOL all of these kids!  We have 1, and I am feeling over matched.  Today we are babysitting for a friend, so we have 2.  I can't imagine doing this all the time.  I am getting NOTHING done.

I could say something here, but ridiculing a mother for having more children than modern liberal university feminists see as appropriate is lame enough by itself so as to need no additional commentary.
