Now come on, goldstein, would you really rather be bludgeoned to death? Or go for the injection (2-step method: first sleep, then lethal shot). I would consider a firing squad but certainly pass on the electric chair.... TH
I am struck by the frequency with which people misread perfectly obvious statements here. I said beheaded with a single blow of the sword, and it becomes "bludgeoned to death" in response. No, you are right I don't want to be bludgeoned to death. But, again, I never set that up as one of the alternatives. I also alluded to, but did not make explicit, the recent multiple problems with even the simple process of "finding a vein" which you have translated to a [seemingly simple] two step process. Were that so, my entire point would have been undercut and I would not have offered it. I think it is important in a forum of this type to write is very clear and short sentences. Your response indicates that even that may not be enough. Right goldstein, you did refer to beheading--my mistake--I was still reflecting on previous post about one swift blow to stun the animal, and since this often doesn't work, the blows must be repeated, hence 'bludgeon'. But your single blow was from a sword, right, I get it. No, even if swift, I would definitely pass on decapitation--thanks. No, I didn't 'translate' your 'lethal injection' comment, at least, not in the way that you mean. I understand that some (many?) states that use lethal injections--with all the obvious problems that entails--do not actually involve two steps. That is, the lethal injection is the only shot given. I may be wrong about this. And anyway, my comment was only in terms of my own execution and was an attempt at humor--lighten up already! TH

I am very light hearted in the company of people in control of their words and responses. I wasn't offering you decapitation, that seems unnecessary, I was making an entirely different point. I apologize for being too subtle.

In India, cows aren't even thought of as food because of Buddhism.
Please, please, please. Let this be a joke.

Hmm. Because of religion, either the Buddhists or the Hindus (at the moment I can't remember which) consider the cow to be sacred. I do remember that they believe in reincarnation and cows are one step below people.
People have been known to accidently hit cows with cars (they freely roam the streets there) and get beaten by mobs for their "crimes."

Your comment reminds me of a boy a friend met on a train in India. This was at a time when there were probably about 200 Americans in country at any given time, tops. "You are from America?! Do you have a gun?" You have not lived until you've seen a rickshaw driving Delhiwalla throw a big a$$ rock at a cow.

Though I have met non-veg Brahmins, vegetarian Hindus eschew all flesh, not just cows. Wise in economy, one major reason for not eating cows and holding them sacred is the ability to produce dairy products. There are many lovely stories of Krishna that relate to delicious milk sweets and such. If you have ever driven past the section of a city or village that processes hides or meat (the work of shudras, the lowest caste) in 105 degree heat, you wouldn't want any part of it either. Pariahs have no caste. The word means outcaste. Buddhists are outcastes because they do not observe the system.

I don't know much about the castes but I have a friend of that religion and she would not touch beef. Gennimom wouldn't listen to me though when I tried to tell her. I will have to admit that is about the only thing I really know about her religion. The only reason it came up at all was that I was ordering food for us one night.

I'm sorry for your loss. Once upon a time (several times), I was terribly embarrassed by my inability to discuss the fine points of GATT revisions as they related to India. So I guess I've finally gotten this thread back on track. not letting the terrorists win, contemporary
