Life is an endurance race. Pace yourself.

« on: July 06, 2007, 02:25:27 PM »

Let's have some fun!

Look at the list of Tour de France cyclists and pick 9.  Email your list of nine riders
to me before 10am eastern tomorrow (Saturday).  Please message me with your list or post it here.

You can change your list of chosen riders up to 9am Saturday (tomorrow morning).  You
can choose any 9 riders. They do not have to be from the same ProTour team.

Scoring will be done two ways:

(1) Points scoring

Points will be awarded for each stage by order of finish in each stage.  If one of your
riders takes the yellow, green, white or red polka jersey, you'll get bonus points.  The points are tracked for all 9 even if some don't finish the whole tour. If one of your
riders has to leave the tour because of a drug violation, you lose his points.

(2) Time scoring

Time scoring is simple.  Your team members' overall time for the TdF will be tracked
and the fastest five will be counted to determine your team's finish.  At least five of
your team must complete the whole tour for their times to count.

A list of riders and teams is here:
http://www.cyclingnews.com/road/2007/tour07/?id=startlist

I will post daily results.

Join in the fun and let's see if you can win the Tour de France (game)!

The Tour is under a cloud this year because of the doping scandals. So I harken back to Lemond and Indurain.

The Tour has been under a cloud for doping scandals for years. At least cycling tries to combat it, unlike some other sports. :o)

Are you going to play?

NEver heard of half the riders this year. Lots of them have been kicked out.

I like Indurain, Eddy Mercxx, Greg Lemond.

Here are  my picks, I think.

num   first   last   country
36   Frank Schleck   (Lux)
39   David Zabriskie   (USA)
46   Robbie McEwen   (Aus)
58   Michael Rasmussen   (Den)
111   Levi Leipheimer   (USA)
112   Alberto Contador   (Spa)
181   Erik Zabel   (Ger)
191   Alexandre Vinokourov   (Kaz)
195   Andrey   Kashechkin   (Kaz)

That gives me several possible GC guys, two sprinters, a mountain specialist, a time trialist, and one guy in the "best young rider" competition.

C'mon and play!

I want David Zabriskie to win, but I don't think he will. Maybe he'll win some stages. Have you ever read/heard any of his one-minute on-the-bike interviews? Hilarious.

Go Dave!

Whoever wins the mountain stages will win. And then there will be a doping scandal that will go on and on.

I know nothing about racing.  I shall pick my players because I like how their names sound and enjoy saying them:

Cool Names:

23 Mark Cavendish
53 Bram de Goot
57 Grischa Nierman
83 Paolo Bossoni
101 Thor Hushovd
169 Benoit Vaugrenard
178 Matteo Tossato
184 Andry Grivko
204 Juan Jose Cobo Acebo

This is why I do not gamble on sports.

Hah!

I can't pick 9 guys, but I'm pulling for Zabriskie and Leipheimer.

But the good money is probably on Vinokourov or Sastre.
