Privacy/Disclosure

Here's a question about privacy/disclosing information with my answer. Of course, circumstances can affect this. What's your response?
Do some forumites take offense to questions about age, sex, race, marital status, number of children, etc. on written applications and governmental forms or in business/personal conversations?
I generally don't take offense to giving this information, but I know a few people who do.
I once had an undergraduate student advisee who saw no reason to put his actual ethnicity down in the space labeled "RACE" on his graduation application, so he just wrote "Human". I couldn't talk him into changing it for the record, so I processed the application and submitted it as was. He was graduated along with the rest of his class just fine.

I don't like the multiple choice format for race/ethnicity. I am Caucasian but do not consider myself a "non-Hispanic white American" so that kind of ruffles me a little. Marital status questions should include the possibility for same-sex or opposite-sex domestic partners, in my opinion. I don't mind stating my sex or age, middle name, occupation, etc. for what it's worth.

The only item in that list that I don't reveal as a rule is age:
* It reveals that my first university hired me at 22 (many people make assumptions as a result . . .)
* For the most part, it's no one's business
* I am ID theft paranoid
On everything else - if asked, I answer appropriately EXCEPT I will select "Other" for Race/Ethnicity if a form suggests / requires that only one option can be selected.
