Florida: cockroaches that fly in the daytime + hurricanes
Hawaii: it's an island.  I couldn't handle that.
Texas: Texans (sorry Historywoman--I've lived there and got tired of people being inexplicably hostile in their pride of place: "Don't Mess with Texas" indeed--keep it away from me and there'll be no problem).  ;-)

Now, whoever compared Kansas and Nebraska to Saudi Arabia is misguided.  I can't speak for Nebraska, but Kansas is not as bad as you all think (in fact, that should be the state motto: "Kansas: Not As Bad As You Think!").  And I say this as an atheist/pagan lesbian.  The weather mostly sucks, though.  But oh, those thunderstorms!  I really, really miss them when I'm living in places that have no really dramatic weather.

Utah, Utah, and Utah, in that approximate order.

I'm baffled by this dislike of Alabama. I think I'd like living in Alabama, especially Mobile.

Mobile is very nice.  But Mobile is really just part of Florida that got away . . .

Much like me, do you suspect that someday the Panzers will come rolling out of Provo?

Plus they breed like rats there so their influence is increasing accordingly.

Besides the reason I gave for California, I can't stand places with too many people. I spent 5 days in Minneapolis, and while I enjoyed visiting, I couldn't stand living there. TOO. MANY. PEOPLE. I can't believe I applied for a job there at one time. I would have had claustrophobia and whatever the phobia about crowds is.

Ugh.

Did you go and toss your hat in the air in front of Dayton's department store? It seemed to make Mary Tyler Moore very happy; she did it every week!

No, never saw that place. We spent most of our time on the UofM campus, with a side trip to the St. Paul campus. We crossed the creek once to go eat. I don't like being in man-made canyons. They give me vertigo.

Florida's problem is similar to Texas'; there are too many Floridians down there.  Somehow the combination of retirees, immigrants, redneck natives, thousands of transient tourists, and opportunistic "business" people make Florida a very bad mix.

I've lived in Miami. It's like a whole other country in ways that Texas never was, despite their advertisements.

Florida has few Floridians.  It's mostly populated by folks from other countries and from the north.

I'm amazed at how many of you dislike my homestate.  How can Alabama be compared with North Dakota? The mind boggles.

I wonder how much of these results are driven mostly by assumptions about weather or assumptions based on stereotypes?

There are 11 states that haven't been picked as unihabitable:

Colorado
Delaware
Indiana
Maryland
New Hampshire
Ohio
Oregon
Pennsylvania
Rhode Island
Vermont
Virginia

Of all those states, I would most want to live in Virginia.

The last Floridian moved to Atlanta in 1997.  he took the flag with him.
